Modern Front Yard Makeover in Rockford, MI

This Rockford homeowner had a stunning midcentury modern home—the perfect architectural backdrop for a bold, modern landscape. While the house made a strong statement, the front yard and patio space didn’t live up to its potential.

We began by clearing the existing landscape, carefully preserving a few mature trees the client wished to keep. From there, we rebuilt the entire space using a mix of complementary hardscape materials that reflect the home’s clean lines and timeless character.

The design incorporates large-format concrete pavers, natural cut stone retaining walls, and stone outcroppings, blended seamlessly to create a unified, contemporary look. This layered material palette not only enhances curb appeal but also provides structure and texture to the outdoor space.

At night, the space comes to life with inlaid paver lighting and uplights on the focal-point trees, creating depth, drama, and year-round evening interest.

This Rockford front yard transformation is a great example of how modern landscape design can enhance both the form and function of a midcentury home—day or night.
